HOW SELECTION AND SPITTOON BOWL VALVES WORK AND WHEN TO INSTALL THEM
They are both valves made by Dürr, we install them on our dental unit in some cases. Let’s explain which ones.
THE SELECTION VALVE
It’s very simple to know when a dental unit needs a selection valve: if it is not the only chair connected to a suction motor.
If, in a clinic, there are more units connected to the same suction motor, each of them must have a selection valve, in this way the suction cannulas do not have suction power loss.
When the suction cannula is taken from the tray, the valve opens itself to allow the suction. In reverse, when the suction cannula does not work, the valve remains close.
THE SPITTOON BOWL VALVE
It must be installed when there is not a drain at the chair base or when you need to collect and separate amalgam from the basin as well. This valve activates the suction on the spittoon bowl when needed.
Of course, the spittoon valve must be installed with the selection valve to avoid the problem we talk about in the previous paragraph, though the unit is the only one connected to a suction motor: the spittoon valve must activate the suction motor and open itself only when water is dropped in the spittoon.

OTHER SOLUTIONS
Do you have a dry suction system in your clinic?
We have two solutions for you: other valves made by Dürr that are made to separate air and water. Read the next article, we will talk about them!
