FLOOR CONNECTIONS TIPS FOR YOUR DENTAL UNIT

The standard we recommend

Are you building, renovating, or just want to modernize your clinic? We have some tips about the connections, at the base of the dental unit, for you!

Regardless of the type of dental unit you already have, or want to install, we recommend the following solution.

PIPES & WIRES CONFIGURATION

All pipes and wires fit comfortably in a 20 by 20 square. All connections must be placed at the base of the dental unit, under the patient’s feet. In addition, the connections must be as close to the floor as possible (better if they are at the floor level), in order to avoid cluttering up too much space.

WHICH CONNECTION YOUR DENTAL UNIT NEEDS TO WORK?

In 80% of cases, the connections used are

– 2 PVC Ø 40mm pipes
– Suction pipe, connected to the suction motor
– Drainage pipe, to drain directly into the sewer
– 2 Ø 6x8mm multilayer pipes with micro-ball tap
– One for the water supply
– One for the air supply
– 4 corrugated tubes
– One for the power supply (220V, 15A, 50-60Hz) of the dental unit (3x 2,5mm² wires). Is recommended to apply a Schuko plug on these wires.
– One for the ground wire (at least 2,5mm²)
– One for the control wires that activate the suction motor (2 wires).

Normally, these wires are not powered by 220V current. In the case of an old suction motor these wires can be powered, for this a relé must be applied.

SOME TIPS

For the drain pipes, we recommend avoiding 90° curves during the pipe track (max 45°).

For the water and air supply, we recommend to use pipes with a tap: in this way, you can close water and air at the base of the dental unit, in order to able the maintenance the single dental unit, avoiding the un-connection of water and air of the other dental units.

In case you would connect a monitor or a screen you could also consider having one corrugated tube for an HDMI cable, or an ethernet cable.

OTHER CASES

Sometimes, and in some countries, the spittoon is not connected to a drain pipe, is directly connected to the suction motor, and there is just one drain pipe at the dental unit base. Even if we recommend installing it anyway for future eventualities, in this case, a spittoon valve must be installed in the water unit, in order to permit the activation of the suction motor when the basin is used.

We recommend to always follow our installation tips about the predisposition and install all connections.
