SUCTION MOTORS

There are mainly three different types of suction motors: wet, liquid and dry. Let’s go see the differences and when we can install them!

The type of suction motor defines what we can introduce inside it.

LIQUID SYSTEM

It’s the old version of the wet suction motor. The main difference of this machine is that it needs a water supply to work. The consumption of water is very high, for this reason we don’t use it anymore.

DRY SYSTEM

In this suction system only air arrives to the motors, we can not put water or fluids inside it. It does not need any pipe for drain: if you have a machinery room without a connection to the waste net this is a good solution!

Another advantage of this system is that can be installed in an upper position compared to the dental unit. A wet suction system can not be installed at the upper floor: it does not have enough power to bring the fluids upward. But if the suction motor work only with air, this is possible!

This kind of system also need an air/water separator: if it can not vacuum fluids, they must go somewhere! The air/water separator can be installed at the chair base, we install the CS1 made by Dürr.

WET SYSTEM

We recommend to install the wet suction motor every time it is possible. It has many advantages: no valves required, cost a bit less, the consumption is similar compared to the dry suction system. It’s the best choice in our opinion!

We said that it does not need any kind of valves, but it can work with a selection valve or a spittoon valve, but this is a different topic explained in this video.

When you install this kind of system a drain pipe in the machinery room is required: it vacuums not only air but also fluid that need to be wasted.

MAINTENANCE

While the dry suction system does not need any kind of maintenance, the wet one needs two interventions: clean the filter and use an anti-foam solution in order to keep high the performance.

The maintenance is very easy, it is a very simple system. We recommend to this this every day during intensive work day or, at least, every week.

HOW DO I RECOGNIZE THE TYPE OF MY SUCTION MOTOR?

If you need to replace the dental units inside your clinic we have to know what kind of motor you have, in order to install the proper valves (if needed). How we recognize them?

DRY SUCTION: It does not have any drain pipe.

WET SUCTION: It has a drain pipe.

LIQUID SUCTION:  It has a drain pipe and also has a water tube connected to the head of the motor.

When you know these information, we can build up the configuration of your new dental units.
